Young mobile users in Australia speak their minds about telcos

A recent study has resulted in young mobile phone users in Australia speaking their minds with regards to what they think about telcos.

When it comes to evaluating their services and products, communications giants in Australia often forget to focus on the opinions of younger consumers. However, when it comes to technology such as smart phones it is often the younger consumers that are the main customers, which means that their opinions are vital to help telcos to make improvements to certain services.

A recent study has resulted in young mobile phone users in Australia speaking up about what they think of the telcos in the country. The study was carried out jointly by Not for Profit Organisations St Laurence, the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN), and students from a number of secondary schools.

The study showed that young mobile users were keen to see telcos being more truthful and less misleading. In the ‘A Call for Change’ forum they called for greater clarity, less misleading advertising, changes to costly and lengthy contracts, and more honesty from telcos.

This leg of the project has involved participation from year 11 and 12 students of the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) from Padua College, Carrum Downs Secondary College, McClelland College, and the Brotherhood’s Community VCAL Program. Project organizers have said that the data gathered provided a valuable insight into the thoughts of younger mobile users when it came to services, products, and costs from Australia’s telcos.
