Motorola Backflip Review
The Motorola Backflip is a budget friendly smartphone with an unusual design. With the Backflip Motorola you get a full QWERTY keyboard, as well as a unique backtrack navigation feature. Another feature included with the Blackflip is a 5-megapixel camera that comes with some great extras, such as 4x zoom.
Although the Motorola Backflip comes in a clamshell design, it isn’t your everyday flip phone. With this phone the keyboard is always exposed; it is the screen that flips out from behind the keyboard. The design allows you easy and fast access to the keyboard, though the back of the phone isn’t smooth and flat like other designs so it might not be as comfortable to hold in your hand. Another problem with this design is that the Backflip Motorola isn’t a thin phone so slipping it into your pocket might not be an option. If you are accustomed to a fast phone, you will likely be discontent with the Backflip as it tends to be unresponsive and slow.
The Backflip features nice sized, 3.1-inch touchscreen, though the colours don’t seem to be as vibrant as what you get with other touchscreen mobiles of the same class; additionally, in direct light the display can be difficult to see.
One of the areas that the Motorola Backflip does excel is the keyboard; with this keyboard you get large keys that make typing messages fast and easy. For typing in low light situations the keys are backlit, plus the letters are large enough to make them easy to see.
The Motorola Backflip is an Android phone that also includes MotoBlur, which makes setup on this phone easy. If you already use another MotoBlur device and have an account, it’s incredibly easy to transfer to your new phone.
Reception could be a problem, especially indoors. Unlike most mobile phones that have no problem with indoor reception, you might come across locations where you cannot make or receive calls with the Motorola Blackflip. In general, call quality is not good with this phone.
You do get all of the usual features with the Blackflip, such as a music player, calendar and personal management tools, as well as games. The sound quality of the music player is acceptable, but would be better if it was a little louder. The camera does take some fairly good photos, though it will not replace your stand-alone camera.
The battery life of this phone also has some problems; you will likely have to charge the battery once a day, and still it may not last throughout the day.
Before you go out and buy this handset you’ll want to compare Motorola Backflip to other smartphones in the same price range. Although the Motorola Backflip price is reasonable, it would still be difficult to recommend this mobile.
