The Samsung Preston is a stylish phone that features a large touchscreen, a solid build, along with a few extras. Although this is a midrange phone, you do get a nice, 2.8-inch AMOLED touchscreen, which is unusual for a midrange handset.

With the Preston by Samsung you’ll get a handset that is about half the price of most touchscreen mobiles, but you will give up some features for this lower price. Basically this phone is an entry-level touchscreen meant for those new to this technology, but if you are already familiar with this type of mobile, the Icon might be a better option.

Some of the features that you’ll get with the Samsung Preston include a 2-megapixel camera with flash and mobile web browsing via HSDPA. The included browser does a good job of rendering web pages, but the smaller display might cause some problems with surfing the web to any great extent.

The applications that are included with the Preston are fairly basic; you’ll get some preinstalled games, as well as a media player that supports an assortment of file formats, including MP4, H.264 and WMV video files and MP3, AAC and WMV audio files.

There are some nice tools that come with the Preston by Samsung; these include Fake Call and Smart Unlock. To unlock this phone you can assign an alphabet letter to different applications so that you are only unlocking that particular function.

The Preston is fast; it goes through applications and functions with no lag at all. Unfortunately call quality isn’t as good, during calls there tends to be a lot of static and the volume is too low. Reception also seems to be a problem, as this phone tends to drop calls.

For a low cost touchscreen you might be tempted to accept a 2-megapixel camera, and no WiFi, but not getting good call quality can be a major problem. If you want a touchscreen mobile phone that doesn’t cost a lot, you might want to opt for another budget friendly model that offers more features and better call quality.
