Sony Ericsson W995 Review

The Sony Ericsson W995 is a slide phone that puts a lot of focus on music, but it also comes with an improved camera, and much more. Unlike earlier Walkman series phones, the W995 Sony Ericsson comes with improved features, as well as function. With this phone you get an 8.1-megapixel camera, as well as WiFi, and HSDPA 3G.

Due to the fact that the Sony Ericsson W995 is a slide phone it is a little thick, though not so much so that it is a hindrance to carry with you; the W995 measures 97 x 49 x 15mm and weighs 113g. Though one of the main focuses of the W995 Sony Ericsson is media, the display is only 2.6-inches; this isn’t a big problem if all you are interested in is the phone part of the device, but it does cause some problems with media.

Even though you won’t be getting a smartphone with the Sony Ericsson W995, you do get quite a capable mobile; it comes with the standard Sony interface that is fairly easy to use, especially if you are familiar with it already. One of the main problems with the Walkman series is that there wasn’t a lot of emphasis put on features, aside from the music player, but with the W995 that has changed.

Some of the improved features that come with the Sony Ericsson W995 include an 8.1-megapixel camera that is similar to what is included in a few of the newest Cybershot camera phones. With this camera you get LED flash, auto focus, and several additional photo settings. Along with taking still photos, this camera will also record video. Photo and video quality is good, except when shooting in low light.

Of course music is a major feature of the Sony Ericsson W995; you get a high quality music player, as well as external speakers so that you can listen without headphones. The media player supports a number of different file formats including MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC and WMA files, as well as MP4 and WMV video formats. Playback is good, though the small display does make it slightly difficult to view video comfortably.

Additional features that come with the Sony Ericsson W995 include a web browser for surfing the Internet, and high-speed connection through 3G and WiFi. In addition, you also get support for Bluetooth and Assisted GPS.

For staying connected, you will get support for email, plus text and multimedia messaging. To store your media files the Sony Ericsson W995 features 118MB of internal memory, plus it comes packaged with 8GB memory stick for additional file storage.

The call quality is good, voices sound natural and clear. Battery life rating for this handset is 9 hours of talk time and 370 hours of standby, though the W995 tends to need to be charged about every couple of days.

The Sony Ericsson W995 price isn’t too bad, though you can probably get a lot better deal with the many promotions being offered right now.
